The closing of Yellow Freight and the resulting loss of financial security for hundreds of families in our region is devastating. The Copley terminal employed over 300 individuals who are now abruptly faced with the need to find work in the area or to relocate. At this time, the terminal is secure and our safety forces will monitor the situation closely. As one of Copley Township’s largest employers located within the Copley-Akron Joint Economic Development District, the economic impact from the loss of income tax will be substantial to the City of Akron. In addition, the uncertain future of this 53-acre site is concerning. As a community, however, we will work with our affected residents to secure any resources available and, at the appropriate time, will seek opportunities for the site bringing back jobs and economic growth to Copley Township.
