Solid Waste Management - Republic Trash
Copley Township Board of Trustees approved entering into an exclusive 5-year trash collection contract with Republic Waste. The reasons were to reduce the number of trash trucks on our roads that cause damage due to their weight, make trash and recycling volumes reporting simpler, and, most importantly, to reduce the cost of collection service to our residents. The contract is for single-family residences only and not for condominium or apartment units, or businesses.
Republic will supply a 95-gallon wheeled trash cart and a 65-gallon wheeled recycling cart. Residents are permitted to place items outside of their carts provided each item does not exceed fifty (50) pounds and is within a two (2) cubic yard size limitation. (To clarify, two (2) cubic yards is about the size of a 4' x 4' x 5' box. 2 cubic yards can be visualized as a total of (4) four totes. A tote being one Republic trash can.) While the driver's primary concern is to provide unparalleled service, please keep in mind that each driver travels alone and is responsible for completing the route timely. For additional information, please contact Republic at 330-834-4969.
Starting January 1, 2021, the collection of trash and recycling will be on a weekly basis.
New customers are to call Republic at 330-284-4002 to sign up for service or if they have any questions or concerns with their service. If residents have further questions please call the Copley Service Department at 330-666-0365 or email at www.copley.oh.us.

Additional Services
Annually the Township offers services to its residents to dispose of unwanted items.
Brush Collection
The Township Service Department collects brush (tree and bush trimmings) placed un-bundled at the roadside from single-family homes only in the second and third weeks of September.
East of Cleveland-Massillon Road - 2nd week and West of Cleveland-Massillon Road - 3rd week
Stumps of any kind, grass clippings, loose leaves, dirt, or lumber will not be collected.
Recycle Day
The Service Department, along with the Copley-Fairlawn Kiwanis Club, hosts a Recycle Day at Copley Community Park the first Saturday in October. Items collected are used tires (off the rim), used motor oils and antifreeze, household batteries and light bulbs, scrap metal and appliances with refrigerant, and e-waste. There are charges for televisions and computer monitors. Information about this collection will be published prior to the event. No paints or solvents of any kind are accepted. No businesses allowed.
Paints once dried are not considered hazardous and may be disposed of in regular household trash. To dry paints remove the lid and add products like kitty litter, oil dry, or drying agents available at hardware stores. Once the paint hardens place it in your trash collection cart. If multiple cans have been dried dispose of them a few at a time. See Hazardous Waste below for information involving the disposal of hazardous waste items.
Christmas Tree Collection
Each year the Service Department collects live Christmas trees placed at the roadside in early January. Christmas trees are turned into useful mulch and kept from taking up space in landfills.
Hazardous Household Waste Recycling Center
ReWorks of Summit County operates a hazardous household waste recycling center at 1201 Graham Road in Stow (next to the Carter Lumber Company). It is open from June through September each year on Thursdays from 2 to 7 p.m. The facility accepts hazardous household items such as but not limited to paints (oil, and solvent-based), paint thinners and removers, pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, fertilizers, household cleaners, drain cleaners, floor care products, automobile fluids, used motor oil, anti-freeze, batteries, aerosol cans, propane cylinders, and asbestos (double bagged) all at no charge. The asbestos must be wetted down to prevent fibers from becoming friable and 3 inches by 3 inches or smaller. There will be a charge of $1 per tire, on or off the rims.
This facility is for residential use only and will not accept commercially or industrially generated hazardous waste materials. The facility is to be used exclusively by residents of Summit County. Please check their website at summitreworks.com for details or call 330-374-0383.
